17 Tips On How To Declutter Your Home Before You Move

8 January 2023 by mylifeyourway Leave a Comment

Are you moving soon and dreading the thought of dealing with all your stuff? These tips will help you declutter your home before you move quickly and easily!

Relocating isn't exactly high on most people's lists of favourite activities, but with the right amount of planning, it can be a lot less stressful. Before you start packing up your life and relocating to a new location, there are a few things you should do to ensure a smooth transition. Creating extra room in your house by decluttering is essential, as it will lessen the burden of packing everything up all at once.

Get a head start on cleaning by starting now.

Don't put off cleaning your house till the last minute. You'll be able to take things slowly and carefully if you allow yourself plenty of time. This will also give you time to purge any unnecessary stuff before you begin packing.

Make a Strategy

Have a strategy in place before you start decluttering at random. Because of this, you will be able to keep your attention on the task at hand and complete it successfully.

First, tackle the simple stuff.

If you're at your wit's end, do the little tasks first. Start with one space or one category at a time (like clothes, books, or kitchen stuff). You can take your time and not rush through anything.

Purge All Copies and Extras

Is it necessary to have three towel sets? Very unlikely! If you're having trouble determining what to keep and what to toss, start by getting rid of the things you have multiples of.

Put the past in its place

There comes a moment when you must let go of something which no longer brings you happiness. You should also get rid of any objects in your house that trigger negative memories. Keeping them will only prevent you from making progress and moving on.

Pay Attention to Your Requirements

Consider what you need before making any moves. Can you name the top three features that your new house must have to meet your needs? Don't keep anything that isn't essential. When the time comes, you may always go out and get some more.

Identify a willing recipient for your surplus possessions.

Find a new home for your unwanted possessions by contacting a charity or a friend who might use them. Aside from saving resources, you'll also be helping those in need by doing this.

Hold a Yard Sale

Having a garage sale is a great option for those who need to get rid of a lot of belongings. Make or hire someone to make your own!

Start a Collection Box

Create a donation pile for the objects you no longer use but which still have useful lives. There's always someone who can use these things, or you can sell them at your next garage sale.

Sell valuable unwanted items

If you have things lying around the house that you no longer need but which are in in usable shape, consider starting a sales pile. You can place a sign in the window or on the curb to sell these items or sell them online.

Throw Away Damaged Items

All those broken things will bring you nothing but heartache. Don't keep broken or unnecessary items around the house.

Make sure you love it

Only keep items around the house if you really adore them. If you don't want it, give it away or sell it so that someone else may use it.

Don't Hiding Anything That Owes You Money

If you bought something and don't like it or utilise it, you shouldn't feel forced to retain it simply because you paid for it. You might feel like you have wasted money on it, but keeping it instead of selling it or giving it to charity is the most sensible thing to do.

Empty the closets completely

You should begin your home's decluttering project with the closets. As a result, you'll be able to assess your resources more accurately and make more informed choices. Having everything out and creating a mess is also great motivation for me to clean and organise so that I can get them back in.

Caves and Cellars

Another excellent storage space to begin purging is a basement or attic. It's best to begin with the debris that has accumulated here over the years.

Tag Every Single Thing

Make it easier to locate things in your house by labelling all of the boxes and containers. It's much simpler to understand when and where things should go when they are clearly labelled.

Don't rush to get it done

Don't become overwhelmed by trying to declutter the whole home at once. Plan to work on each individual assignment over the course of many days. Really, you'll be amazed at how much you can do!

Conclusion

Don't put off decluttering your house till the last minute. Sorting out the house will get you organised, keep you focused, and prevent you from being overwhelmed. Don't forget to wrap up on a strong note by doing the simple things first. Your new, clutter-free house is almost ready to welcome you.
