8 Tools For Studying Online Without Distractions

24 January 2026 by mylifeyourway Leave a Comment

Distractions are the one of the biggest threats to productive study. One quick phone check can break a full hour of momentum.

You can study well online if you control the things that pull your attention away.

Below are eight easy tools you can use to remove distractions.

A person wearing headphones and a pink shirt writes in a notebook at a desk with a laptop and markers.

Forest

Forest turns focus into a small game. You plant a virtual tree and it grows while you study. If you leave the app, the tree dies.

Use Forest for 25–30 minute sessions to build a streak and resist phone checks.

Set a clear goal before you start, like “study chapter two for one Pomodoro,” and watch your forest grow as you finish sessions.

Cold Turkey

Cold Turkey is strict and hard to bypass. You set a schedule or a block list and it prevents distracting sites and apps from opening.

Use it for long study blocks or exam prep when willpower alone is not enough.

Freedom

Freedom keeps the same blocking rules on your phone, tablet, and computer.

If you switch devices while studying, Freedom stops distractions everywhere so you don’t slip back into bad habits.

Use it when you study on multiple screens and want one consistent setup that follows you.

Focus To‑Do

Focus To‑Do combines a Pomodoro timer with a simple task list. Plan tasks, run timed sessions, and track how many Pomodoros each task takes.

This helps you break big work into small, focused chunks.

RescueTime

RescueTime runs in the background and shows which apps and sites take your time. Track for a few days to find your biggest distractions, then block or limit those sites.

Knowing where your time goes helps you make better choices about what to block and when to take breaks.

AppBlock

AppBlock schedules downtime for distracting apps on Android. Create a study profile and allow short breaks so you don’t feel trapped. It is a simple fix when your phone is the main problem.

Before long sessions, make sure your internet will not interrupt you. So test your internet speed so you know your connection is stable.

Brain.fm

If silence or normal playlists don’t work, try Brain.fm. It plays music to improve concentration.

You can use it for deep work sessions when you need attention and less interruptions. Try different tracks and note which ones help you focus best.

If you use a specific provider like HyperOptic, then you should check your speed before running playlists..

Notion

With Notion you can store summaries, schedules, and links in one workspace.

Create a study page with your plan, readings, and a checklist of Pomodoros so you don’t waste time searching for materials.

You can use simple templates to save time and keep everything organized.
