When you are designing your house, it's easy to think about the essential spaces that you need. You need a kitchen, you need bedrooms, you need a bathroom. And you definitely need a living room. But what about somewhere to relax? You want your entire home to feel relaxing overall, but it can pay to pay some close attention to specifics in each space. Having reading nooks in the bedroom or retreats within the children's playroom is obvious as a solution to relax, but what about media walls in your living room?
You could add a giant, comfy chair opposite those media walls so that you can recline and watch your favorite shows. The whole idea is to escape the stresses of work and family life and be able to retreat into your own world for a little while. Chill out ideas don't have to just be surrounding luxury purchases, such as swimming pools that you can float around in the backyard. So let's take a look at some of these chill out ideas for your home that can make sense.
- Think about installing a daybed. Have you ever considered a daybed which is very different to the one that you sleep at night? You can cozy it up and you can have it by a window or you can even have it in the backyard to make your space somewhere that you can really recline and relax. Comfortable cushions and the throw rug can really give you somewhere to sink into.
- Install window seats. If you have a sunken nook by your window, then installing a window seat could be the best thing that you do for your home, especially if this is in the bedroom. You can prop it up with cushions and a throw and it could be quite a deep window seat depending on how much space that you have. It's a great place to be able to recline and read your favorite books while you are sat by the light.
- Create a media wall. Have one wall in your living room as a space with a giant TV and you won't regret the money and time you put into your chill out space. If you add a reclining chair or a sofa in front of it, you'll be able to lean back, relax, and watch your favorite shows on the big screen. It’s one of the best things that you can do to really create a chillout spot and the best part is that the entire family can use it, too.
- Make sure that you have one TV-free space. Your living space should be one of calm relaxation and that means that you should have one area of the home that doesn't have any TV at all. While it’s nice to have a media space, the silence is going to make a big difference to your zen and it can make you feel like you’re back in the world. Sometimes, you just need to be device-free for a while even if it’s just for a day!
