Durable Flooring Ideas: 4 Best Options For Your Kitchen Or Bathroom

5 June 2025 by mylifeyourway Leave a Comment

There’s often too much choice when it comes to choosing your flooring whilst renovating your home. So many textures, colours and finishes depending on the job it needs to do. When it comes to your kitchen and bathroom, you want something hard-wearing but that still looks great! Here are some recommendations for flooring that might best suit your home.

Luxury Vinyl Tiles

Nothing beats the look of natural wooden floors, but that might not be the best choice in your kitchen or bathroom. Not only would it cost a bomb, but it also requires a lot more maintenance and could just end up getting damp and mouldy. LVT flooring could be a great alternative if you’re looking for that wood effect.

Vinyl flooring provides waterproof protection superior to that of standard wood while also being a more budget- friendly option. It’s also great for areas of your home where the floors aren’t completely flat, as it's flexible but still gives that tiled or planked effect standard wood gives.

Porcelain & Ceramic Tiles

Probably the option that most people think of when it comes to kitchen and bathroom flooring - and for good reason! Both types are long-lasting and have high water resistance, making them great options when freshening up your home.

These tiles come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colours, so they’re great for wannabe interior designers or more experimental individuals. They can work well in awkward spaces but would have to be cut using more specialist equipment, so that could put you off.

Linoleum

What is the difference between linoleum and vinyl, I hear you ask? Well, linoleum is very similar to vinyl in appearance - except it's made from cork or wood materials. If you're working to a strict budget then it might be worth thinking about using. When it comes to ease of installation, linoleum is going to be a lot easier to install than tiles or stone.

It’s a good option if you’re needing something particularly hard-wearing, like the kitchen, for example, but linoleum might not be the best option overall in your bathroom as it can be susceptible to water damage and can need regular maintenance to keep it looking fresh.

Natural Stone

Now, stone is probably the most elegant and sophisticated option on our list, but is it the best option for you? Stone is going to be the hardest-wearing, looking its best for the longest before having to have it touched up or changed.

However, there’s the obvious expense it would cost - but that might be worth it for you if you’re keen to add that touch of luxury. You also want to think about the finish; without any texture you might find the floor a little slippy, so you don’t want to be paying for some gorgeous flooring just for you to end up face first on it!

These suggestions should give you a greater idea of what kind of flooring you may want to add to your kitchen and/or bathroom. It’s worth noting all the pros and cons to make sure you get the right flooring for your needs.
