The Small Home Changes That Quietly Improve Your Everyday Life

When you’re looking to make changes to your home, the most impressionable ones will often be small and not cost a fortune to do.

Not everyone has a big budget to spend on improving their home, so knowing the little tips and tricks to enhance your home and make improvements to everyday life.

Lighting and Ambiance

A big influence when it comes to making small home changes is the lighting settings you use and how you create ambiance in a space.

Start by warming up the bulbs and swapping harsh, cool white bulbs for warm white LED alternatives instead. This can make a big difference in creating a more inviting and tranquil environment.

To help make full use of your lighting in the space, layer it. Using multiple light sources at different heights is a great way to add depth and create a feel to your home that feels like a boutique hotel in its appearance. From table lamps to floor lamps, use different types rather than relying just on the ceiling lighting.

Natural light really helps to portray your home in the best way, and so it’s important to make those small changes that will allow more natural light to come in. For example, open your curtains as far as they can go first thing in the morning. The same goes for your blinds.

Move anything that’s large or bulky that may be blocking windows to allow more sunlight to shine through. Not only does it let more light into the space, but it also helps regulate your circadian rhythm, boosting serotonin levels that impact your mood.

As well as that, it’s going to help keep your home nice and warm throughout the day and evening too.

For added ambiance, use essential oil diffusers or candles to help create calm in the space. Scents like lavender and chamomile or sandalwood really help to signal to your brain that it’s time to slow down and unwind.

Functional Organization

It’s all about functional organization when it comes to improving the home. Those little changes to how items are stored or what sits in the space really make a difference to how your home looks in every room.

Designate a specific spot near your entryway for keys, your wallet, and your phone. Having a consistent home for all of these essentials helps to eliminate the stress that comes from searching for them as you leave.

Consider practicing house hushing by clearly 30% of your decor from a surface in order to let the room breathe. If you focus on clearing one high-trafficked counter or table for ten minutes a day, you’re going to make a noticeable improvement.

A big advantage when it comes to home changes is the use of hidden storage. Using multi-functional furniture, for example, like storage ottomans or under-bed bins, can help to tuck away all of your items, whether that be seasonal clothes, extra blankets, and bedding. The more hidden storage you have, makes it easier for everything to have its own place.

To maximize vertical space on the walls and doors, install hooks so that they make for good storage space when hanging bags, towels, or coats, for example. The use of wall-mounted shelving will help to keep your floors clear, too.

Comfort and Wellbeing

Your home should feel like a place that brings you much comfort and actively improves your wellbeing.

In order to feel more comfortable in your own space, a few small changes can help improve your sense of self in the space, as well as improve your general wellbeing.

Bring the outside in

Start by bringing the outside in. Indoor plants have become highly popular to add to the space, not only for a bit of colour and greenery but also for enhancing household occupants’ mood.

Be mindful of what indoor plants you introduce, perhaps opting for the ones you can easily keep alive, especially if you’re in a busy household with not a lot of time to spare.

Claim a relaxation corner

Dedicating one small spot, like a comfy chair or window seat, is a great way to claim back some relaxation around your home.

This can be a great place for reading or for pausing, if only for a few minutes, without distractions preventing you from doing either.

Tactical upgrades

Simple additions like supportive cushions, a soft throw blanket, or a plush rug can help make the space feel more balanced and cozy.

With these simple and small home changes, you can quietly and positively improve your everyday life at home.
