Have you ever looked at your nails and felt they were a bit old and rough? You can’t explain it, but your nails make your hands look a lot more aged, and you want to do something about it. To be fair, you’re not alone. A lot of people feel like this because they don’t take good care of their nails.
But don’t worry! The secret to nicer nails lies in this blog post, and it’s achievable in three simple steps.
Moisturise All The Time
Moisturising is one of the biggest beauty hacks you can try. It seems like the answer to any beauty concern is to moisturise - and it genuinely helps your nails! You might not realise this, but nails can become dry and brittle. Moisturising them encourages them to appear a lot shinier and feel stronger. They also look “healthier”, and you don’t see cracks or ridges.
You can moisturise your nails using normal hand balm or petroleum jelly. If you want to target the nails and cuticles specifically, then opt for some quality nail oil. After a couple of weeks of regular moisturising, you’ll see some incredible visual changes.
Use Gel Polish Instead Of Normal Polish
Normal nail polish sucks. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you’re basically just painting your nails. What’s wrong with that? Well, nail polish ends up cracking and peeling after a day or so. Not to mention, it also makes your nails weaker and can ruin the way they look.
Does this mean you can’t enjoy coloured nails? No, of course not! Colouring your nails is fun and makes them look a lot nicer; just be sure to use nail gel polish instead of the traditional stuff. Gel polish strengthens nails, looks much better and often contains extra ingredients like vitamin C serums. You can either go to a salon to get this type of polish or buy a kit with a UV lamp at home.
Gel polish needs a light to cure it, which helps it bond to your nails and reinforce their shape/strength. You don’t need coloured gel polish either; natural shades give you a beautiful French manicured look.
File & Buff Your Nails To Maintain A Good Shape & Shine
Beautiful nails are nicely shaped and have a good shine to them. You can achieve both of these things by regularly filing and buffing your nails. Use a nail file to control their shape and keep them tidy. It’s crazy how big of a difference this makes - if you don’t believe me, let your nails go a week or two with no filing on one hand and see how worse they look.
A nail buffer is used on the surface of your nails to polish them and remove any dead skin. It’s good to do this before applying any polish to help it stick better. If you’re not wearing any polish, then regular buffing maintains a shiny and luxurious nail appearance.
All in all, you don’t need to go around with nasty nails. Rejuvenate them with some simple maintenance tips and feel more confident in yourself.
