When it comes to trips and holidays the road trip has made a come back these past few years. With many people looking to stay in the country and enjoy weekends away, staycations or camping trips means that the road trip is a huge part. Some people look at a road trip as a means to an end. They just want to get to the destination as fast as possible. But if you plan it, the road trip can be a big part of the overall trip, and some people are even embracing a road trip as their whole holiday. Stopping off at different places gives you the chance to see areas and locations that you might not usually see, or even just a chance to enjoy a few different attractions. However, if you are in the mindset of wanting to embrace a road trip, the one stumbling block you might have is what to pack in the car. Aside from your own personal luggage like clothes and toiletries are there things that could help you enjoy the road trip and keep everyone happy? With that in mind, here is a list of what to pack for a road trip.

A map or sat nav
It might sound obvious, but a road trip often means that you are not following the quickest and most obvious route to your destination. You want to explore the little villages, the countryside, and see the beauty on the road. So a map and a sat nav can help you. A map is a great way to go back to basics and the family can get involved with directions. However, if you prefer the sat nav, you can ask for the route that doesn’t involve motorways so you can take the scenic route to your destination. Once you know what that is, you can plan accordingly where you want to stop.
Baby wipes
Baby wipes will be your saving grace on a road trip. We all know that messes can happen and dirty faces and fingers from eating food on the road. Baby wipes will keep you all clean and fresh.
Comfort items
You also need to consider the comfort items that you might need for your road trip. Travel pillows and comforters for the kids are essential to keep everyone happy.

A busy bag
A busy bag is something that you can create for any younger children you may have in the car with you. They may not appreciate what is outside their car window, so between stops can mean the little ones get bored. A busy bag is what you can buy that is filled with activities such as colouring, stickers, and little toys. However, you can easily create your own. Fill it with things you know your children will enjoy playing with. It is a great life saver for when boredom strikes on the road.
Tablets and devices
There is no hiding the fact that tablets and devices are a part of our lives and on the road, they can be very useful. They can be an educational tool for finding out things about the places you are visiting as well as a distraction for little ones when they want to relax. Not only will you want devices for distraction and practical purposes, but you also need those extra battery backups to keep things working when on the road.
Drinks and snacks
Being on the road means you need drinks and snacks. There is no hiding from that and you don’t want to rely on buying convenience foods or spending more on the road on fast food options. So put together a snack and drinks bag where you have sandwiches, crisps and all of the things you want and need to keep hunger and thirst at bay.
Travel mugs and reusable bottles
If you can, using travel mugs and reusable bottles will keep the rubbish and waste at bay, but it can also help you to be more sustainable. Travel mugs are great for take-out coffees and can keep them warmer for longer. Reusable bottles are great for keeping water and juice cold.
Sunglasses, blankets, extra layers
Finally, you need to ensure that you are ready for anything. We can’t always predict the weather, so you need to have sunglasses, and blankets for comfort as well as extra layers so you can keep cool when it is hot but also warm up if the weather isn’t so great. Lastly, make sure you have coats and waterproofs in the boot, just incase.
