Essential Documents For Travel

Text reads: "This is a collaborative post.

When you are travelling, there are some documents that you can’t be without. And, while you may not need COVID tests for entry, there are ever-changing rules for every country. Often it is better to be safe than sorry, and simply call the travel organisations for the country you wish to visit to see what you need.

Most often, they have updated information and are a great option.

So what should you take with you every time you travel?

National ID Card, Visa & Passports

It is not uncommon for people to book a holiday without checking the validity of their passport, so make sure you apply for a British Passport Renewal (or any other passport renewal asap). If you are abroad you can still renew your passport. Find out the easiest way to renew your British passport in the USA on the MyBritishPassport website.

Often at security borders, you will be asked for extra ID, and that is where your national Id card will come in handy. The more identification you have, the better.

Many countries require that you have a visa - and you will need to apply for one as soon as you can. Without a visa, you will often be turned away at the border.

Itinerary

Although we are very used to having everything we need digitally, it is better to have hard copies. Put each of the hard copies into a folder so that you can show them if you are required. But perhaps more important is, if you lose any of your documents, having a copy will allow you to show them in order to get a flight home, get medical care or clear up any misunderstandings.

This is also helpful if you get to a hotel and they need a reservation number, but you can’t access your emails because you don’t have any internet reception.

Medical Insurance & Health

We like to think that no matter where we go, we will be safe. But really, we never know when something might happen. It might be food poisoning, or it might be an accident.

Although many people like to skip out on travel insurance and see it as an expense they don’t want to cover - it can make a lot of difference when you really need it.

Before you take the first type of insurance offered, think about what you need and speak to the policy provider so that you can verify exactly what is on your policy and what is covered.

Usually, you will have a policy certificate issued and, in some cases, a card that you can put in your wallet.

Make sure that you put a copy in your hard copies folder.

While most countries had COVID requirements, and those are now gone, other countries have long-standing rules when it comes to vaccinations. Things like typhoid, cholera, polio, hep B, yellow fever and more.

There may also be some time between the first and second injections, and you should account for that when it comes to booking your travel.

Getting ahead of having the right travel documents is one of the ways to have a great holiday; here are some others: Top Tips For A Fuss-Free Family Holiday ~ My Life Your Way.
