How To Make Any Space Feel Like Home

Text reads: "This is a collaborative post.

Moving into a new home always comes with a mix of emotions. Excitement? Absolutely. A little bit of stress? Guaranteed. But one thing is certain - until you put your personal touch on it, a house is just a building, and it’s what you do with it that actually makes it feel like home.

If you’ve ever stepped into a new space and felt weird about it because it doesn’t feel like yours, you’re not alone - it happens all the time. The trick to get rid of that feeling is to transform that space into something that really reflects you, and with that in mind, keep reading to find out how to do it.

Start With The Things You Love

Before you start rearranging the furniture or adding new decor, it’s wise to start with the things that matter most because those are the things that will make you feel most comfortable in your new place, which then reduces your stress levels and allows you to think more clearly about where everything else is going to go. So what do we mean? Well, it could be anything, like a favourite chair, a pile of soft blankets, your family photos up on the mantelpiece, something that’s been with you wherever you’ve lived, and so on. The more personal touches you add, the more ‘you’ the space becomes, so it’s ideal.

And you shouldn’t ever underestimate how powerful having things like books, art, and photos around you can be - they’ll instantly lift your mood, so it should be at the top of your to do list every time.

Trust The Experts

Sometimes creating the perfect home means getting a little help, and that can even start with finding the perfect property in the first place, dealing with details of the move, or perhaps making design choices that stand the test of time. The fact is that with all this going on, having trusted property specialists on your side can really make a difference because they know all the ins and outs of how to make a space not just a nice place to live, but to really feel like home - your home specifically.

At the end of the day, home isn’t about how big the place is or even what postcode it’s in or anything else other than how it makes you feel, and if that feeling is positive, it’s going to mean you instantly feel a lot more at home there.

A Home Needs Character

The best homes have their own personality, and they don’t look like they’ve been copied from a website or catalogue, for example. They might have a mix of old and new, high and low, sentimental and practical… you get the idea.

So you can basically put what you want in your home as long as you love it, and for some people, that’s going to mean the quirkier the better. For others, it’s about making things neat and tidy with loads of storage. That’s what’s so much fun here - you can make your home into anything you want to.
