Of all the rooms to decorate in a home, the dining room can be one of the hardest. It’s a space made for dining in peace and comfort, and it needs to be spacious enough to allow for a table, chairs, and plenty of room to get in and out. Overpacking the space will soon turn your mealtimes into squished, claustrophobic experiences no one will enjoy.
But that doesn’t mean you should leave the dining room empty. You can turn it into one of the coziest spaces in your home with a few nifty decor tricks. We’ve listed a few below for you, to give you an idea of what to do with the rest of the space once you’ve got your dining suite in position.
Build a Display Cabinet into the Wall
If there’s no room for a proper unit to be pushed against it, build the cabinet into the wall itself. You can do this by setting up shelves and/or display boxes at different heights, or even by cutting into a section of the wall, and then reinforcing the crevice with wood panels and LED lights.
Now you can store and display whatever you like, but you won’t be bumping into the cabinet every time you try to make it round the table.
Pop a Log Burner in a Corner
Much like where the flower vase is in the picture above, you can buy a cylinder log burner for your home and insert it into an empty, overly negative corner of the dining room. You’ll need to ensure it’s installed safely, and there truly is space for a roaring fire, but you can measure all this out beforehand to be sure.
Once it’s in place, you can put some logs in to burn whenever you’d like to create a warm dining atmosphere. This is great for the colder months of the year, but even in the summer, if you’ve got a set of french windows in the same room, you can have them open while the fire goes at the same time. That’s a super cozy scene to set up in your house!
Hang Some Plants
Plants bring life to every space they’re in, but they can be hard to find a home for in the dining room. You can put them on the table itself, sure - but you’re likely to compromise on usable dining space in doing so. Plus, you’re likely to see a lot more bugs in the eating area during the summer and autumn seasons.
Instead, hang them up out of the way. Get hanging baskets to attach to the ceiling, pop your favorite plants inside, and let them grow out and downwards. This way you still add some essential greenery to the space, but you don’t have to negotiate round massive plant pots that jut out and grab you with their leaves!
Dining rooms should be cozy spaces. Make yours the coziest in the whole house with these ideas.
